Andrew Whiteside

Listen: Is the Merchant of Venice anti-Semitic?

A summer tradition in New Zealand is sitting in a park and watching a play by Shakespeare. This year, 2022 in Auckland, Shoreside Theatre is putting on a programme of plays titled, as you may expect – Shakespeare in the Park.

In this interview with Andrew Whiteside, theatre director and former school teacher Trevor Sharp – who is directing The Merchant of Venice for this year’s run discusses the season and also dispels the myth that the play is anti-semitic.
