Review: Georgia Lines – Under the Stars

I have never seen Georgia Lines perform live, so turning up to watch her show Under the Stars at the Civic Theatre was a real treat. Joined by her band and a quartet from the always impressive Auckland Philharmonia, she performed a range of her own songs as well as some fantastic covers including a phenomenal and emotional rendition of Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.

Lines has a beautiful soulful voice and combined with a sweet nature and philosophic bent her show and musings was incredibly uplifting.

Half way through the show, the curtain came down and the concert continued for a while with only the stars in the ceiling of the Civic showing. This interlude was really quite lovely and during it she was joined on stage by the soulful Louis Baker, Holly Smith, and Nikau Grace.

This was one hell of a line up and it was mesmerising.

After a while the curtain rose and the ensemble delivered some wonderful moments. Lines finished the show with more of her own music and a wonderful version of the classic song Hine E Hine.

It was indeed a magical evening under the stars.
