Review: The Batman is very long, very gloomy, but is it watchable?

In this version of the famous story, Batman has been fighting crime for two years. A new nemesis has arisen, a curious foe called the Riddler. In trying to catch the devious desperado, Batman uncovers a dark web of corruption that threatens even his own life.

This is literally a very dark movie. There is no joy, it is constantly raining, and Batman himself talks in an almost monosyllabic whisper. The action sequences are well created, and the entire look of the film is gloomy and oppressive which adds to the sense of drama and danger. The story though is very drawn out, with some scenes dragging, and at three hours, the film is way too long.

However, I do recommend the film, it’s a very interesting reinvention of the franchise, and Robert Pattinson brings a brilliantly stoic and tortured personality to The Batman.

So how did I score it?

Acting  8/10

Story/Script   7/10

Cinematography  8 /10

Set/Costumes   8 /10
