Review: The Lost King is quirky and fun

This is a film about the real life discovery of the body of King Richard the Third of England. He’s gone down as a bit of a bastard in history thanks to Shakespeare, and the belief that he murdered his own nephews to gain the throne back in 1483.

Sally Hawkins stars as Phillipa Langley, the woman who is largely credited with researching the whereabouts of the lost king. She plays Langley in a kind of quirky but likeable way, and she is supported by a great cast including Steve Coogan. The plot focuses mostly on Langley’s story, and paints many of the other characters and the University of Leicester in a very negative way. As you can imagine, that’s not gone down too well with them in real life.

This is a fun, quirky little film that is interesting to watch and seeks to exonerate Richard the Third, which is somewhat contentious, but it shouldn’t stop you enjoying the film as I did.
