& Juliet is a musical coming to New Zelanad in April that explores what might have happened if the story of Romeo and Juliet had not ended with their deaths. The show revolves around a conversation between William Shakespeare and his wife Ann who argue about potential story ideas. At Anne’s insistence, the play is changed so that Juliet decides not to kill herself and instead moves to Paris.
The musical features live performances of songs made famous by pop stars such as Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys and Katy Perry.
In Auckland recently I got the chance to see a sneak peek of the show when three songs were performed by the all New Zealand cast of the upcoming show.
The three leads who sang were Kristin Paulse as Juliet, Matu Ngaropo as Shakespeare, and Awhimai Fraser as Anne.
Now I have never seen this musical but I was incredibly impressed by the voices of these three which were simply beautiful and melodic. If this is anything to go by, I can’t wait for the show to open in Auckland in April. It moves on to Wellington and Christchurch in May and June.
So keep a look out.
