Bangladesh has it’s first transgender news reader

Bangladesh’s first transgender newsreader delivered a word-perfect news bulletin this week. Tashnuva Anan Shishir overcame personal tragedy, bullying and suicide attempts in her past to win the role on Boishakhi TV. After the broadcast, her colleagues at the station cheered her.  


Three dads win legal battle over birth certificate

Three men in California have won the right to have all their names on the birth certificates of their children. Known as a ‘throuple,’ the men have been in a committed relationship with each other for eight years and are the parents of two toddlers. They went to court because they wanted to protect their parental rights – and won! In related news, Bethany Christian Services, a protestant adoption agency in the US, says it will work with LGBTQ couples.  


Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras wows crowds

Covid made this a very different Mardi Gras – instead of a street parade, the event was held at the Sydney Cricket Ground last Sunday. A crowd of 36,000 watched 5,000 marchers deliver a stunning show. The theme for this year’s parade was RISE, a call to action through love, compassion, respect, and understanding. One participant wasn’t shown much respect though when he was assaulted in central Sydney after the event.
