Music – some new tunes Yung Gravy, Taylor Swift and others

MARVELOUS (Album)

Artist – Yung Gravy

Marvelous is the fourth album for Yung Gravy who is an American rapper who resembles a 70s porn star. His music style is a mix of soul, trap, and funk, and he is definitely creative. There are 15 tracks on this album, and while they are well constructed most of them are not to my taste.  But Sugar Mama is quite cool probably because it has a pop beat to it and some quirkiness. In a similar vein, Betty (Get Money), has some interesting melodic moments. Watch a video of Sugar Mama here.

LIFT ME UP (song)

Artist – Rihanna

You must have heard this song from the movie Wakanda Forever by now. Rihanna wrote it as a tribute to Chadwick Boseman, and it certainly has an emotional and reverential feel to it. I love Rihanna, and think she has one of the best voices in music today. This is a very sweet song. Check it out here.

DOWN THE LINE (Song)

Artist – Alison Wonderland

Hailing from across the Tasman, Wonderland is a DJ and music producer as well as singer. Down the Line is an interesting track, vocals are great, and it begins as a ballad then part way thought has a synth, rappy, bit that is rather curious. But I enjoyed it. I can imagine listening to this walking along a windswept beach after a break up, especially since one of the repeating lyrics is “I’m gonna be ok this time.” The music video is weird though as you can see.

SICK OF U (song)

Artist – BoyWithUke ft Oliver Tree

BoyWithUke is an American singer/songwriter who got famous making TikTok videos. He’s got quite a unique and cool sound and creates great tunes with, you guessed it a Ukulele. This track is a collaboration with Oliver Tree. It’s an unusual track, with the sound of various instruments and a distorted Ukulele sound, there’s also some rap mixed in as well which makes it interesting and good to listen to.  The music video is here.

MIDNIGHTS (album)

Artist – Taylor Swift

So this album has been a massive hit and in the US, it dominated all 10 spots on the Billboard Hot 100 songs when it was released. I don’t know why. I mean, I seriously don’t know why. The song Anti-Hero, and Labyrinth are ok, but the rest – MEH.
