Manaia Tuwhare-Hoani (Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Wai), is a Māori poet who is participating in Connecting Worlds with Words, an exciting online event happening on the 19th of February 2022. It is a gathering of poets both here in New Zealand, and in Australia for a live virtual poetry slam.

Connecting Worlds with Words is a spoken word event collaboration between three major urban public spaces (Fed Square in Melbourne, Bunjil Place in Casey AUS, and Aotea Square in Auckland). This live virtual-physical hybrid event will activate urban spaces and celebrate the power of the spoken word to connect communities across time and space, on 19th Feb. Poets from all three cities will perform in their city while also being streamed live to the other locations.

It was originally going to be in Aotea Square with the public able to attend – now that we’re in red, it’s going to be live-streamed from the Herald Theatre, but people can still participate online for free.
