As part of its 35th anniversary year, Massive Theatre Company presents HOME MADE, a new and original production celebrating the people, places and moments that shape our sense of home.
Premiering at Te Pou Theatre in Tāmaki Makaurau from 22 to 25 July, before heading to ONEONESIX from 29 to 31 July, HOME MADE is a vibrant love letter to belonging.
Following the success of Massive’s 2024 production Te Ao Hou, HOME MADE turns its attention to the experiences and memories that define us. Using Massive’s critically-acclaimed creative process, the show is an exploration of life’s wonderfully loud moments, and the soft moments that make it worth living. There’s nothing like the ‘Massive way’ to bring fresh energy, new ideas, and real vigour to the stage, and HOME MADE embraces exactly that.
At its heart are five talented up-and-coming artists – Tyla Tuala-Vaimasenu’u, Manu Rainey, Tom Webster, Phoebe Rayneau and Māui Hitchens. Each brings their own answer to what home looks, sounds, and feels like. Playful and heartfelt, the cast contemplate: where does your heart live, and who does it call home?
Directed by long-time Massive Theatre Company member Denyce Su’a, who has been part of the company since 2012, the production continues Massive’s commitment to developing original Aotearoa theatre while creating professional pathways for the next wave of exciting performers and storytellers.
Trained as an actor, director, and teaching artist with the company, Denyce has performed in The Wholehearted (2016–2017) and The Island, which toured as part of the National Theatre of Scotland Youth Exchange Programme in 2026. She is drawn to collaborative spaces where ideas can be let loose and where unexpected magic can be found.
“HOME MADE is about belonging, identity, Whānau, friendship and the spaces that create us. It asks what home really means and how the people around us become part of who we are,” says Denyce Su’a.
For more than three decades, Massive Theatre Company has created theatre grounded in real stories and ensemble collaboration, while nurturing generations of artists through free workshops, training programmes and devised performance making. Massive Theatre Company is proud to be a unique multi-generational theatre company, with long-time company members including well-known performers Beulah Koale, Kura Forrester, Miriama McDowell, Bree Peters and Madeleine Sami.
Massive’s productions continue to bring new audiences into theatre, with almost half of audiences for previous works attending theatre for the very first time.
