Anti-trans laws forcing parents to move in America


A slew of anti-trans legislation passed or pending in American states is forcing many parents of trans kids to consider moving to friendlier locations. Arkansas is one state where health care for trans minors is now restricted. The state’s parliament squashed a veto by Governor Asa Hutchinson and passed a bill to prevent treatment of anyone under the age of 18. In interviews with NBC News many parents in the state and in neighbouring Texas and North Carolina are facing the dilemma of having to move in order to provide care to their children. Switzerland to hold referendum on marriage equality

Opponents to a 2020 Swiss law that allowed gay couples to marry have forced a binding referendum on the issue. Last December the Swiss parliament passed a bill recognising same-sex marriage. This week the country’s chancellery announced critics had gathered over 60,000 signatures on a petition calling for a referendum. In November 2020 an opinion poll showed brought support for marriage equality in Switzerland. The referendum is expected to be held before the end of 2021. 


Caitlyn Jenner announces run in politics

Former Olympian and reality TV star Caitlyn Jenner has announced she will run for governor of California. Incumbent governor Gavin Newsom faces a recall election after more than 2 million people signed a recall petition. Jenner became famous as an Olympic medal-winning decathlete in the 1970s and then starred with her family in the long-running tv show Keeping Up With the Kardashians. Jenner will stand for nomination as a Republican party candidate.
