Jurassic World Rebirth is the latest instalment of a franchise that is starting to feel as though its cloned as many times a the dinosaurs that plague humanity in the many films. On the plus side, this film has a strong cast with Jonathan Bailey emerging as a bit of a standout with a natural charm and a character well grounded.
In this instalment, the dinosaurs have died out in most of the world and are now confined to tropical regions of the planet. Across the globe people have lost interest in the creatures but a biotech company puts together a team of people to go to a remote island to obtain samples of dinosaur blood to make advanced medicines. What could go wrong? Well as expected, people end up dying.
Visually the film is fantastic with great vistas and very realistic and at times cgi monsters. The action sequences are tense and quite scary in moments and are definitely very well filmed. However the film’s pacing suffers from too many long-winded conversations which attempt to make the characters relatable but waste a lot of time and don’t add anything to the plot. If anything they feel manipulated. There is also an over reliance on familiar plot beats which feel a little tired after this many films.
While Rebirth is watchable and entertaining to a degree it does feel like it might be time for the franchise to retire. It certainly pales in comparison to the original Jurassic Park.
