Read: New music Moby, Julia Michaels, Camino

There’s been some great music released in the past few weeks, and here is my take on some of it:

Natural Blues (single) – Moby ft. Gregory Porter and Amethyst Kiah.

I’m a huge Moby fan and this newly reimagined version of the song Natural Blues is just stunning. It has a gospel feel with soaring orchestral flourishes, an intense beat, and beautiful vocals. Deeply emotional and evocative.

Moby’s new album Reprise is out May 28th 2021.

Not in Chronological Order (album) – Julia Michaels

Julia Michaels is a grammy award-winning singer-songwriter. She describes her new album, Not in Chronological Order, as a collection of songs representing various chapters in her life. Clearly, there’s been confusion and heartache in her past.  This is a nice album with a range of songs, some laid back, some poppy. Easy to listen to and eliciting a number of different emotions.

Stand out songs  – Little Did I Know, All Your Exes, Love is Weird,  The Kind of Woman

Would You (single) – Mikey Dam

An acoustic guitar dominates this cute track about loneliness and desire by kiwi singer-songwriter Mikey Dam. It has a chirpy melody, with soft percussion background and charming vocals. The song is about being raised without his father and it has a bittersweet innocence to it.

Burning Fire (EP) – Camino

There are five songs on this EP by Camino and they are pretty hard to ignore. His strong voice has a slight southern twang that suits these tracks perfectly. The music is expansive with a mix of instruments providing richness to each track. Camino is from Mississipi and credits country, blues, rock, and soul influences. And that’s what comes through. This isn’t country music, but a wondrous fusion of styles, with lyrics that are simple and honest. All the tracks are great, but Burning Fire is my favourite.
