Event: A View from the Bridge – Apr/May 2026

Set in the docklands of 1950s Brooklyn, the play follows Eddie Carbone, a wharfie who lives by his own code. When two undocumented cousins arrive seeking work and safety, Eddie offers shelter – but when desire enters the house, the fuse is lit. What follows is inevitable, brutal, and unforgettable.

Arriving in the middle of a global reckoning on borders, immigration, and who gets to belong, Miller’s story explores the corrosive effects of fear – the fear of the outsider, the fear of losing status, and the fear of our own desires. It is a study of toxic masculinity and moral panic that reads like headlines ripped straight from our newspapers – even 71 years after its premiere.

Directed by Arts Foundation award-winner Anapela Polata’ivao (ONZM) (Tinā,Wild Dogs Under My Skirt, Alofagia: Le Opera), this production is performed in the round, closing the distance between audience and action. It is Miller at his purest: stripped back, muscular, and devastating.

At the heart of this production is visionary casting, with the entire ensemble drawn from our migrant communities. The result is a sharper, more urgent interrogation of belonging, a story that resonates powerfully in Aotearoa today.

“It’s a great play – brutal, beautiful, and relentless, and here it’s given new life by actors who would probably never be seen in these roles. They bring their own experience, energy, and humanity, and that makes the story hit harder and feel closer than ever” says Anapela Polata’ivao.

The cast is led by our very best, many of whom come together for the very first time. Internationally acclaimed Samoan-Kiwi actor Beulah Koale (TināNext Goal Wins, Hawaii Five-0) as Eddie Carbone, alongside Stacey Leilua (Young Rock, Wild Dogs Under My Skirt), Hanah Tayeb (King Lear, The Twelve), Arlo Green (Rūrangi, Miles From Nowhere), Semu Filipo (Things That Matter, Next Goal Wins), and Jesme Fa’auuga (Brown Boys, O Le Pepelo, Le Gaoi, ma le Pala’ai) make up this star-studded cast.

“Anapela’s production is going to spark conversations we urgently need to have. These actors are going to shift the ground” says Silo Theatre’s Artistic Director, Sophie Henderson.

The design team features newly minted MNZM costume designer Elizabeth Whiting(Hudson & Halls Live!Murder on the Orient Express), and visionary production design duo Filament Eleven 11 (ScatterGun: After the Death of Rūaumoko, Girls and Boys), reinterpreting Miller’s Brooklyn through a distinctly Aotearoa lens, for the Q Rangatira stage.

Since its Broadway premiere, A View from the Bridge has featured icons such as Robert Duvall and Scarlett Johansson – now, Silo Theatre proves its power, intensity, and relevance are undiminished, bringing a timeless masterpiece home with an extraordinary cast that meets this moment head-on.
