Watch: I Am Woman does Helen Reddy proud

Helen Reddy was a musical icon who sadly died a few months ago. I Am Woman is a fitting tribute to both her and that incredible song.

The film is a rapid-fire look at the life of Helen Reddy from the struggles to make a name for herself in the US, through the hugely successful years and plenty of personal issues along the way.

Tilda Cobham-Hervey is incredibly convincing as Helen Reddy both her look and her mannerisms. She is ably supported by the rest of the cast including Evan Peters as her husband Jeff.

9 out of 10 for acting.

The film covers a big chunk of Reddy’s life and as such tends to focus on moments of triumph and hurt. It’s a tale spun well, but not as emotionally  connected as I expected.

7 out of 10 for story

The filmmakers have produced a remarkable looking film with imagery and shots that evokes the years Reddy was at her peak.

8 out of 10 for cinematography

Beginning in the 1960s, the look of this film is authentic to each period in both costumes and aesthetics.

7 out of 10 for sets and costumes .

This is a nice film with a great soundtrack and provides a touching look at one of the most famous singers of her generation

8 out of 10 for entertainment value

Adding all those scores means I Am Woman gets an average of 7.8. out of ten.

I Am Woman the song is one of my all-time favourites – so the film provided a fascinating look at the woman behind it and her struggles. Not as emotionally intense as it could have been, but worth taking a look.
