This is Wes Anderson’s latest film and to be honest I’m not really sure what it’s about. It appears to be a filmed play within a TV show within the actual film.
Press play to watch the review:
The plot of the play within the film concerns a group of people in an American desert attending a youth science fair. Multiple families are there and all the characters are, let’s say, quirky. There’s an alien encounter, martial law is imposed, and the kids try and contact the extra terrestrial. The film also cuts to separate scenes in black and white which depict the actual process of putting the play together. Oh.. just a note – the bits of the film in colour represent the actual play itself.
Confused? Yeah me too! However, the film is beautifully shot with gorgeous aesthetics, the cast of characters are all very engaging, and there is enough humour and intrigue to get you through this curious and quite entertaining story.
So how did I score it?
