Just in time for the school holidays a new light installation has been put up in the recently opened NZ International Convention Centre in Auckland. Known as Dreamer it wends its way through several exhibition spaces in the giant Ariki Hall on level 3 of the building.
A mixture of light and video installations with moving colours and moods greets visitors. Headphones are provided and these offer some great dance tracks as a great soundscape to the different spaces. Some of my favourites included an animation of sperm whales swimming underwater, dancing robots, a space age dodecahedron and a very fitting, for Auckland, display of lit up traffic cones.
Dreamer is an interesting exhibition with some very cool spaces, but I think the sheer size of the venue overwhelmed it a little. It is however a nice outing especially for kids.
