Rainbow Games 2026 has confirmed its return to Auckland from 29 October to 1 November, marking the next phase of delivery for New Zealand’s largest community-led multi-sport event for rainbow communities and allies.
The announcement coincides with registrations opening on 15 February 2026, confirming an expanded programme delivered through a new partnership-led model.
Rainbow Games 2026 offers 15 ways to participate, including 14 competitive sports and an all-new Get Active programme focused on inclusive movement and wellbeing. The programme includes 12 returning sports, two new competitive codes, Kickball and Functional Fitness, and participation-focused Get Active sessions such as Yoga, Q Zumba, and Q Box.
The Get Active sessions open the Games to people who are not traditional athletes, offering accessible options centred on movement, wellbeing, and connection.
The 2026 event will be delivered across multiple venues through strategic partnerships with National and Regional Sporting Organisations, embedding the Games more closely into the wider sport system.
“Partnering with established sporting bodies such as Swimming Auckland, Auckland Marathon, Basketball New Zealand, and Bowls New Zealand provides proven infrastructure and expertise, supporting the continued growth of New Zealand’s only multi-sport event for rainbow communities and allies,” said Teresa Platt, Programme Director, Pacific Rainbow Games Trust.
Independent post-event evaluation from the 2024 Rainbow Games highlights the impact of the model. More than two thirds of participants said the Games were their first experience competing in a fully accepting sporting environment.
In addition, 96 percent reported feeling accepted and that they belonged, 80 percent felt more empowered to be active, and 68 percent felt more confident to stay involved in sport beyond the event.
Registrations open 15 February 2026, with an Early Bird discount available for a limited time.
